The Center for Advanced Public Safety (CAPS) is a contract grant-funded interdisciplinary research and development center in the College of Engineering at The University of Alabama. We are dedicated to implementing and utilizing cutting-edge technologies to enhance the public safety and well-being of the citizens of our state, nation, and world. We routinely work with federal, state, and municipal government agencies to develop custom technology solutions for their needs.

CAPS is a cutting-edge software shop focusing on the newest tools in development and IT research. Being a non-profit agency allows us to focus on innovation in both methodology and development, creating custom software solutions that match the specific needs of our sponsors. Whether it is a .Net Core stack or Node.js with an Angular front end, our products are fresh and unique. We remain dedicated to implementing and utilizing cutting-edge technologies to enhance the public safety and well-being of the citizens of our state, nation, and world.

CAPS has developed electronic citation and crash reporting software used by law enforcement in Alabama, Arkansas and Mississippi every day. We also work on public-facing applications such as the Algo Traffic website and mobile app and UA Safety mobile app. CAPS works with many state agencies in Alabama and other states.

We employ 100 full-time software and web developers, business analysts and IT pros. CAPS consistently recruits for these opportunities as our projects and resource needs grow and change. We employ undergraduate & graduate students and often offer student employees the opportunity to become full-time staff after graduation.
