Licensed Professional Counselors

LPCs seeking contact hours for this event should follow this procedure found at:  http://abec.alabama.gov/PDFs/2016/Cont.Education.Policy.pdf

  1. Acceptable professional development activities for continuing education must reflect provider documentation from one of the following: the National Board for Certified Counselors, Inc. (NBCC), or the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) and must be training in the professional field of counseling as required by ABEC regulation 255-X-2-.18.
  2. Activities not authorized by the agencies listed in the above item may be approved by the Board upon receipt of acceptable documentation prior to the activity. Minimally acceptable documentation must include an outline of the content of the pending event, qualifications of the presenters, and the clock hours for actual event. The Board will delegate authority to a member to review such requests and provide approval or denial of the request. The Board will communicate in writing the decision regarding prior approval of a professional development event. No approval of a continuing education activity will be provided by the Board after the event has occurred.
  3. Board approval for a pending continuing education activity will be granted on an individual basis (i.e., “blanket” approval is not allowed).
  4. Official written documentation from the agency or individual providing the approved activity (e.g., certificate, letter) or a letter of Board approval for activities is the only acceptable method for verifying continuing education activities.
