Director: Dr. Jeff Carver

Mission: To help CAPS developers and the software development community at large efficiently build high-quality software through the development and evaluation of advanced software engineering approaches.

The lab aims to develop and evaluate software engineering methodologies and techniques and to investigate the opportunities in Huntsville tied to the software engineering needs of the tech and defense sectors of north Alabama. In addition, the Software Engineering lab also provides outreach to K-12 students regarding computer science and software engineering.

Objectives:

  • Engage with CAPS developers to identify software development issues in need of support
  • Develop and evaluate software engineering methodologies, techniques and tools for use at CAPS and beyond
  • Investigate the opportunities in Huntsville tied to the software engineering needs of the tech and defense sectors of Northern Alabama
  • Explore the opportunities where software engineering intersects other areas of interest to CAPS and CS faculty, such as mobile computing and human-computer interaction (HCI)
  • Provide empirical evaluation capabilities to support validation needs for CAPS contracts and grants, especially as it relates to the development and use of software packages
  • Provide outreach to K-12 regarding computer science and software engineering
