CAPS provides outreach services both to train users on the systems that it has developed and to demonstrate the application of its research results. This aspect of its services to state and federal agencies has expanded dramatically over the past decade.

Examples of CAPS outreach capabilities include software training on all of its own systems, the management of the Alabama Click It or Ticket project and involvement in the federally guided Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign. CAPS has done evaluations of traffic safety efforts over the full range of traffic safety countermeasures, including the Commercial Motor Vehicle Ticketing of Aggressive Cars and Trucks (TACT) efforts. CAPS designs and conducts public service media campaigns on important matters such as the state’s Online Insurance Verification System (OIVS), among others. CAPS is also quite involved in planning and participates heavily in the Alabama Highway Safety Plan (HSP) and the FHWA mandated Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP). CAPS has performed data analysis to produce the Crash Facts Book for the state every year since 1999. More recently, CAPS has begun developing mobile applications for both iOS and Android systems, such as the Drive Sober app, that demonstrate the close coupling of CAPS’ software development and outreach services.
